Lands of America recently had $391 million in land for sale in the Buckeye State. This represents some 33,396 acres of land for sale in the state. The most expensive property listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $12 million, though the median price for land, ranches and rural property in Ohio came in at $393,122. The average price of land for sale in Ohio was $515,552. Some 56 species of mammals, 200 species of breeding birds and 170 species of fish call Ohio home. The state has 74 state parks and over 130 preserves, sections of which are open to hunt and fish. Ohio is also home to a burgeoning wine industry, with over 100 wineries registered in the state producing 800,000 gallons of wine every year, including Ohio's signature Ice Wine. In terms of its size, Ohio is the country's 34th-largest state, covering an area of 44,828 square miles (29 million acres). Of this area, 40,861 square miles (91 percent) is land, while the remaining 3,965 square miles is covered by water. Less than ten percent of land in Ohio is public land (i.e. national and state parks, national forests, BLM land). As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Ohio. U.S. News & World Report ranks Ohio as one of the country's top ten states for its cost of living. Of the 88 counties in the state, Highland County had the most land for sale, while Highland County was trending recently as the county with the most land sales recorded through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program.
